Amman, May 24 (Petra) – The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) has reaffirmed its strong commitment to addressing the fallout from the fire aboard the cargo ship ASL BAUHINIA, prioritizing the protection of Jordanian traders’ rights since the incident occurred.

In a statement released Saturday, ACC Vice President Nabil Khatib said the Chamber immediately began closely tracking the incident, identifying the port where the vessel eventually docked, and seeking comprehensive and accurate information about the situation.

He noted that the Chamber held a series of meetings with affected traders and responded swiftly to the incident’s repercussions. A joint committee was formed with those impacted to monitor all aspects of the case and ensure legal proceedings are pursued effectively to secure compensation.

Khatib explained that the Chamber selected the international law firm BLK from several candidates to handle the case, in cooperation with specialized maritime legal offices. A meeting was held between BLK representatives and the affected traders to outline a legal roadmap, define procedures for granting legal power of attorney, and clarify the next legal steps.

Following a detailed briefing by BLK representatives on the nature of the case, the litigation process, and expected legal outcomes, the traders formally appointed the firm. Khatib emphasized that the Chamber places traders’ legitimate interests at the forefront of its mission and is committed to following up on such matters with full seriousness and responsibility, reflecting its national and institutional role in supporting the commercial sector.

BLK representatives assured traders during the meeting that they will manage the legal proceedings before the relevant international judicial bodies under a comprehensive strategy tailored to the complexity of maritime cases. They highlighted the firm’s extensive experience in similar legal matters and its broad network of partnerships with maritime law firms worldwide.

They added that they will begin work immediately after the formal authorization is completed and pledged to maintain transparency by issuing regular progress reports.

The ASL BAUHINIA, en route from the United Arab Emirates to Aqaba in January, caught fire while carrying containers for various global shipping lines.
