ACI Commends Agriculture Ministry’s Role in Boosting Agro-Industrial Competitiveness

Amman, June 17 (Petra) – The Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) on Tuesday praised the Ministry of Agriculture for its efforts to support the competitiveness of local agro-industries through the adoption of flexible policies aligned with the sector’s needs.

In a statement, the ACI noted that the ministry has introduced a dedicated fast-track process for registering Jordanian products, emphasizing its commitment to fostering partnership with the industrial sector to enhance its competitiveness and job creation potential.

The ACI highlighted that the ministry’s decisions aim to safeguard both the agricultural and industrial sectors, which intersect in several areas. One example is the ministry’s initiative to open opportunities for industrial companies to participate in a food processing project in the Southern Jordan Valley. The initiative includes three agro-industrial projects over an area of 30 dunums, covering the production of tomato paste, ketchup, and the dehydration and freezing of fruits and vegetables.

The ACI stressed that the ministry’s efforts to ease investment challenges in the agricultural sector have yielded tangible outcomes, most notably the increase in agricultural exports to around JD1.5 billion and a 6.9 percent growth rate in 2024.

The statement concluded by expressing hope that these developments will help position Jordan as a regional hub for food security through export support programs, local product protection, enhanced food processing, and increased investment in the sector.
