Port Sudan, Aug. 8, 2026 (SUNA) – Vice-President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Malik Agar affirmed that Egypt’s position toward Sudan throughout the war has demonstrated the depth of the historic relations between the two countries, as well as Egypt’s clear respect for the will of the Sudanese people and its commitment to Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability. Speaking at a farewell ceremony for Egypt’s Ambassador to Sudan, Hany Salah, Agar said the phrase “Egypt and Sudan are one people in the Nile Valley” is neither a political slogan nor a diplomatic formality, but a reality proven by actions. He praised Egypt for hosting Sudanese citizens during the war and standing by Sudan during one of the most difficult periods in its history. The TSC Vice-President commended Egypt’s consistent position since the outbreak of the war, particularly its affirmation that the Sudanese crisis is an internal matter and that the Sudanese people themselves have the right to determine the future of their country in a manner that preserves its statehood, unity, and sovereignty. Agar also praised Ambassador Hany Salah’s role in strengthening bilateral relations, noting that the return of the Egyptian Embassy to Sudan in May 2023 and the resumption of EgyptAir flights to Port Sudan earlier this month represented practical messages of continued engagement and confidence between the two countries. He stressed that, as Sudan looks toward the reconstruction phase, it will rely on Egyptian expertise and capabilities to support its rebuilding and development efforts. He emphasized that Sudan-Egypt relations are greater than individuals or official positions, resting instead on a shared history and deep-rooted social, geographical, and human ties. Agar expressed his gratitude to Egypt’s leadership, government, and people for their steadfast support, and thanked Ambassador Hany Salah for his efforts in strengthening bilateral relations. He wished him success in his new role as Assistant Foreign Minister responsible for Sudan and South Sudan affairs, expressing hope that it would open broader avenues for joint cooperation between the two countries.BH/BH
