Amman, July 17 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hunaifat on Thursday chaired a meeting with ministry specialists to discuss the development of the National Strategy for Sustainable Agriculture for 2026–2033 and its implementation plan, in line with the government’s broader modernization agenda.
Hunaifat stressed the importance of aligning future agricultural strategies with the Economic Modernization Vision and its executive plan, underscoring the need to shift from theoretical planning to practical, results-oriented programs that directly serve farmers and support the national economy.
He reviewed key achievements under the National Sustainable Agriculture Plan 2022–2025, noting tangible progress in implementing the agricultural sector’s priorities within the Economic Modernization Vision. These efforts, he said, have significantly enhanced the sector’s performance.
The Minister noted that the agricultural sector recorded a 5.2 percent growth rate at constant prices in 2024, with a further increase to 6.9 percent during the first quarter of 2025, figures that reflect the effectiveness of recent strategies and reforms.
Hunaifat also highlighted a qualitative leap in Jordanian agricultural exports, which grew by 39 percent. This surge has contributed to meeting the sectoral targets outlined in the Economic Modernization Vision through 2033 and reinforced agriculture’s role as a key pillar of national economic development.
He stressed that the development of the new strategy must be informed by a thorough understanding of economic, environmental, and regional dynamics. He also underscored the importance of an inclusive planning process involving stakeholders from government institutions, the private sector, civil society organizations, and academic and research bodies to ensure an effective and comprehensive response to the sector’s challenges.
Hunaifat added that the Ministry will adopt a participatory and integrated approach to policy development moving forward, one that balances environmental sustainability with economic viability and contributes to food security and comprehensive rural development.
