The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has intensified efforts to implement a plan to protect the city of Tokar and secure irrigation operations at the Tokar Delta Project, under directives from Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Professor Ismat Gorashi and Undersecretary Engineer Dow-Al-Beit Abdulrahman Mansour, as part of preparations for the 2026–2027 agricultural season. A technical delegation from the ministry, headed by Director General of Irrigation Operations Engineer Abdul-Salam Mohamed Salih and accompanied by Engineer Mofadal Al-Tayib and Engineer Al-Nour Suleiman Al-Mahi, Director General of the Public Corporation for Irrigation and Excavation Works, conducted a field visit to the project to inspect implementation of the irrigation and protection plan. The tour included inspection of breach sites caused by last season’s floods, which have now been fully sealed, in addition to ongoing works involving current deflectors, canal excavation, and reinforcement of protection embankments in Tokar, as part of an integrated plan to ensure smooth irrigation operations and safeguard residential and agricultural areas. The ministry affirmed that machinery and equipment required for implementation of the plan have been provided through the Public Corporation for Irrigation and Excavation Works in line with approved technical programmes, enhancing the project’s readiness for the upcoming agricultural season. The Director General of Irrigation Operations praised the efforts of workers at Tokar Delta Irrigation and the Public Corporation for Irrigation and Excavation Works, commending their commitment to implementing irrigation and protection works according to schedule. Representatives of farmers’ unions and local communities welcomed the visit, expressing appreciation for the ministry’s attention to protecting Tokar and implementing the irrigation plan, particularly amid challenges faced by the area over the past two years.BH/BH
