Al-Burhan Oversees Handover of Chief of Staff

Khartoum, April 6, 2026 (SUNA) – President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan oversaw the handover of the Chief of Staff position from General Mohamed Othman Al-Hussein to General Yassir Abdal-Rahman Al-Atta. Al-Burhan described leadership transition as a core military tradition aimed at renewing institutional performance, reaffirming the armed forces as the backbone of state stability. He credited Al-Atta’s appointment to his battlefield leadership and dismissed regional considerations, while commending his predecessor’s role in securing victories. General Al-Atta pledged to continue the same strategic path, describing the conflict as a national battle and vowing decisive victory. He emphasized plans to integrate allied forces into a unified national army. Outgoing Chief of Staff General Mohamed Othman Al-Hussein stated that, in the early stages of the war, the armed forces focused on securing the leadership and key strategic sites, before moving to supply units with combat support, which ultimately enabled operational gains and the recapture of sovereign areas.BH/BH
