Al-Hilal Defeats Sundowns, Tops Group and Moves Closer to Quarterfinals

Khartoum, Jan. 30, 2026 (SUNA) – Al-Hilal secured a deserved 2-1 victory over South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the fourth round of the CAF Champions League group stage at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium, rising to 8 points to top its group.The first half saw both teams exchanging attacks, with Al-Hilal dominating through Jean Claude and Koulibaly on the wings and Mohamed Abdelrahman in the center. In the final minute of the half, Al-Hilal earned a penalty after Abdelraouf forced the Sundowns goalkeeper into a foul, allowing captain Mohamed Abdelrahman to score, ending the first half 1-0.Early in the second half, Jean Claude extended Al-Hilal’s lead with a stunning strike from outside the box. Substitute Salis pulled one back for Sundowns, and the visitors pressed for an equalizer but were repeatedly denied by Al-Hilal’s solid defense and skilled goalkeeper.
