Amman, Aug. 17 (Petra) – Greater Amman Municipality is implementing a
1-kilometer box culvert project on Princess Tharwat Street in the
Prince Rashid Suburb to strengthen stormwater drainage capacity and
address areas vulnerable to flooding during the winter season.

Mayor of Greater Amman Ahmad Malkawi inspected the project Monday as
part of a tour of stormwater infrastructure projects being
implemented by the municipality.

Malkawi reviewed the progress of construction and the various stages
of the project, which is located in the Wadi al-Seer district and
forms part of the municipality’s efforts to upgrade drainage
infrastructure and reduce waterlogging in areas that experienced
flooding during previous rainy seasons.

He directed the relevant teams to expedite completion of the project
while adhering to the highest technical and engineering standards,
stressing the need to ensure the culvert is operational ahead of the
winter season.

Municipal engineering teams briefed Malkawi on the condition of the
stormwater drainage system within the culvert and its capacity to
accommodate increased water flows, as well as the measures being
undertaken to improve its efficiency and enhance public safety.

The project is part of a broader Greater Amman Municipality plan to
upgrade the city’s stormwater drainage network. The municipality has
previously issued eight tenders for the construction of box and pipe
culverts at a total cost of JD10 million, targeting waterlogging
hotspots and areas prone to stormwater accumulation across Amman.
