Amman, Sharjah Commerce Chambers Discuss Economic Cooperation

Amman, January 9 (Petra) — The Amman and Sharjah Chambers of Commerce have agreed to deepen cooperation, fostering connections between business owners and companies in both countries to advance their mutual economic interests.

According to a statement by the Amman Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, the agreement was reached during a meeting between Amman Chamber of Commerce Chairman Khalil Haj Tawfiq and Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Abdullah Sultan Owais. The two sides committed to activating their cooperation agreement and organizing economic delegation visits to enhance trade relations.

Haj Tawfiq highlighted the strong ties between Jordan and the UAE, nurtured through the shared visions of their leaderships. He emphasized the significance of economic collaboration and maximizing the benefits of available opportunities.

He also underscored the importance of exchanging expertise in trade and investment, building strategic partnerships, and leveraging Jordan’s advantageous position as a gateway to Arab markets such as Palestine, Iraq, and Syria. He noted that UAE investments in Jordan amount to approximately $16 billion, with bilateral trade reaching 997 million dinars during the first 10 months of 2024.

Additionally, Haj Tawfiq invited members of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce to visit Jordan to explore investment and trade opportunities, which could further bolster bilateral economic relations.

For his part, Owais underlined Sharjah’s readiness to collaborate and support initiatives that enhance trade and investment between the two countries. He outlined the Sharjah Chamber’s services, including its international arbitration center “Tahkeem,” designed to ensure a stable legal and commercial environment for businesses.

Owais also highlighted the Chamber’s ongoing support for agricultural projects, noting the upcoming launch of a date factory to enhance the value of local produce.

He pointed to the success of the Middle East Watch and Jewellery Exhibition, inviting Amman Chamber officials to attend and expressing readiness to assist in organizing similar exhibitions to promote trade and investment.
