Amman, Aug 13 (Petra) – The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) on Wednesday reported the ten weather stations that recorded the highest maximum temperatures in the country, with Aqaba’s King Hussein International Airport station setting a new national record at 49.6 C, surpassing the previous high of 48.5 C registered in 2020.
Queen Alia International Airport also broke its record, logging 44.6 C compared to the previous 44.4 C set in 2023.
Other highs included Deir Alla at 47.9 C, Wadi Al-Rayyan 47.4 C, South Azraq 47 C, Al-Baqoura 46.6 C, Wadi Al-Dhulail 45.6 C, Al-Safawi 45 C, Ghor Al-Safi 44.5 C and Al-Ghabawi 44 C.
The department said the heatwave will continue to affect the Kingdom until Thursday, urging the public, particularly during midday hours, to avoid prolonged direct exposure to sunlight, drink sufficient water and follow safety tips issued under the “Protect Yourself from Heat” awareness campaign.
