Aqaba, Dec. 23 (Petra) — Director General of Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management (ACPOM) Mahmoud Khalifat said Aqaba’s main port is witnessing “sustained and active” cargo handling operations around the clock amid the arrival of several vessels carrying various types of goods.
According to a company statement issued Tuesday, Khalifat said five vessels are currently berthed at the port’s quays, carrying raw materials, timber, spare parts, iron, as well as shipments of corn and rice.
He added that nine additional vessels are anchored at waiting areas and are scheduled to dock over the coming days, transporting cargoes including sulfur, vehicles, iron, sheep, and calves.
Khlifat noted that Aqaba’s main port is undergoing a “significant and unprecedented” transformation as part of a comprehensive package of development and modernization plans covering various port facilities.
In this regard, he noted these upgrades have enhanced “operational efficiency” and strengthened the port’s capacity to keep pace with growing commercial activity.
