Aqaba, August 3 (Petra) – The port city of Aqaba witnessed a “vibrant” tourist industry during the month of July, which “positively” impacted its hotel occupancy rates and commercial activity, especially during weekends.

This growth is a “clear” indication of the recovery of the tourist sector and the increased demand to visit the city as a “distinguished” summer travel destination, both locally and regionally.

In a statement Sunday, Commissioner for Tourism and Youth Affairs at Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) , Dr. Thabet Hassan Nabulsi, revealed that the average hotel occupancy rate in Aqaba reached approximately 68% across all hotel categories during weekends.

Nabulsi added that the city’s hotels of all categories recorded a “significant” increase in occupancy rates, as the highest stood at 76%, while the lowest was 58%, which are “positive” indicators that reflect the tourist activity in Aqaba.

Nabulsi noted five-star hotels recorded the highest occupancy rate with an average of 76%, while the rate for 4-star and 3-star hotels stood at 71% and 57%, respectively.

Nabulsi indicated that this performance was due to collaborative efforts between the ASEZA, the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), and all relevant entities in the public and private sectors.

On their joint cooperation, he stated these institutions partnered to organize tourism and entertainment events and activities within Aqaba Waves Festival and “Jordan Summer Nights,” which played an “effective role in stimulating domestic” and international tourism.
