Arab League slams Israel’s rejection of Gaza peace roadmap

Cairo, August 17 (Petra) – Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy
on Monday welcomed a joint statement from eight Arab and Islamic
nations condemning Israel’s rejection of a Gaza peace roadmap.

Fahmy said the Israeli government’s stance demonstrates a “clear
intent” to thwart mediation efforts and maintain the status quo in
Gaza. The Israeli position, he warned, will only fuel daily
casualties, broaden military occupation, and worsen the humanitarian
catastrophe facing more than two million Palestinians.

Fahmy accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of
prioritizing domestic political calculations over international
consensus, pointing out that Israel’s rejection defies UN Security
Council Resolution 2803 and mediator-led arrangements. The plans are
disarming Hamas alongside an Israeli withdrawal, deploying an
international peacekeeping force, and transferring administrative
control to a national committee to govern Gaza.

Israel is attempting to dictate terms to both Palestinians and the
international community without making any commitment to stop
fighting or pull back its forces, he added.
