Army Foils Drug-Smuggling Attempt Using Guided Balloons

Amman, Aug. 17 (Petra) –The Southern Military Zone on Monday
thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into the
Kingdom using guided balloons.

According to the Jordanian Armed Forces–Arab Army, Border Guard units
detected the balloons while they were carrying the narcotics toward
Jordanian territory. The units brought the balloons down within the
Kingdom and seized their cargo.

The operation was conducted in coordination with the relevant
security and military authorities and the Anti-Narcotics Department.

The seized materials were referred to the competent authorities for
the completion of the required legal and investigative procedures.

The Jordanian Armed Forces–Arab Army said attempts to smuggle drugs
or infiltrate Jordanian territory, regardless of the methods used,
would be addressed firmly through the operational and intelligence
capabilities available to the armed forces.

It added that Border Guard units remain prepared to counter
activities targeting the Kingdom’s security and stability, as border
operations continue to prevent the use of Jordanian territory for
drug smuggling or other activities that could threaten national
security and the safety of citizens.
