Port Sudan, Jan. 14, 2026 (SUNA) – The Attorney General and Head of the National Committee for Investigating Crimes and Violations of National and International Humanitarian Law, Intisar Ahmed Abdel Alal, met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk and his delegation, in the presence of the First Assistant Attorney General Kamal Mahjoub Ahmed Saeed and committee members.During the meeting, the Attorney General highlighted the committee’s pivotal role in investigating crimes and serious violations affecting civilians and infrastructure, and the efforts of the Public Prosecution and the committee to ensure victims access justice and uphold the principle of accountability. She detailed the committee’s response following the events in Al-Fashir, including operations of the subcommittee based at Al-Dabbah shelters to document violations and provide legal support to affected individuals.High Commissioner Turk praised the committee and Public Prosecution’s efforts to hold perpetrators accountable and welcomed the release of 400 girls by the TSC President, calling it a key human rights milestone. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation, with the UN office offering technical and legal support to enhance justice, civilian protection, and the rule of law.BH/BH
