The Bahrain News Agency is considered one of the tributaries of the national media in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and it has become a prominent sign of the media in the Kingdom thanks to the adoption of the honest and objective word in the subtraction. the two seas.

These achievements were reinforced in light of the great support that the Agency received in light of the comprehensive reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, where His Majesty, since assuming the reins of power in the country, has attached great importance to the media and the press because of their great importance in the advancement of the country.

The Bahrain News Agency is considered an extension of the Gulf News Agency with all its components of functional cadres and media experience, which was issued a decision by Their Highnesses, Excellencies and Ministers of Information in the Arab Gulf states to establish it at a meeting held in Riyadh in 1976, where the late Mr. The Agency’s management. At the same meeting, the news agency’s budget and administrative structure were approved, and Mr. Nabil bin Yaqoub Al-Hamar, currently the King’s advisor for media affairs, was appointed as Director General of the Gulf News Agency, who held this position until 1989 AD.

The official broadcast of the Gulf News Agency began on April 1, 1978 under the patronage of the late, God Almighty, His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, then Prime Minister, and in the presence of a number of board members and employees of the agency.

In 1985, the Gulf News Agency was annexed to the Ministry of Information in the Kingdom of Bahrain, to be issued later in 2003 by a royal decree amending the name of the agency to the Bahrain News Agency.

In 1992, Mr. Khalid Abdullah Al-Zayani, Head of News at Radio and Television, took over the supervision of the Bahrain News Agency, while Mr. Jamal Daoud Salman assumed the position of Editor-in-Chief.

In 2005, Mr. Abdullah Salman Hassan assumed the position of Director of the Agency.

In 2011, Mr. Muhannad Suleiman Al-Nuaimi was assigned to act as Director General of the Agency.

In May 2018, Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Abdul Karim Al-Mannai was appointed as Director General of the Bahrain News Agency, with the rank of Assistant Undersecretary.

In March 2019, Mr. Abdullah Khalil Muhammad Buhiji was appointed Director General of the Bahrain News Agency, with the rank of Assistant Undersecretary.

The Bahrain News Agency operates with an integrated working mechanism by distributing local and international news in Arabic and English, in addition to cooperating with a number of agencies to broadcast its news in other languages ​​such as Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Hindi, Russian, French, German and others, and broadcasting economic, political, cultural and social reports to subscribers and recipients. for its services.

The Bahrain News Agency was awarded the Medal of Excellence and Creativity in the Arab Media for the year 2011 by the Arab Organization for Administrative Development of the League of Arab States. It also won the Excellence Award by His Highness the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait at the Arab Media Forum hosted by the sisterly State of Kuwait.

The Bahrain News Agency was also elected Vice-President of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), a member of the Executive Council of the Federation of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA) and a member of the Executive Council of the Organization of Asia and Pacific News Agencies (OANA).

The Bahrain News Agency has signed several memoranda of cooperation and news exchange with more than 26 Arab and international agencies, and has become an active partner in many international conferences and events for news agencies.
