Maghreb Arab News Agency - MAP

The Maghreb Arab News Agency (MAP) is the official news agency in Morocco. It provides its services in five languages: Arabic, Tamazight, English, French and Spanish.

The Maghreb Arab News Agency was founded on May 31, 1959, at the initiative of Maghreb patriots, headed by Mahdi Bennouna, and it started as an anonymous company with a capital of 200,000 dirhams fully subscribed.

On November 25, 1959, the agency’s first clip was broadcast in French. In 1960, the agency opened two regional offices in Casablanca and Tangiers. In the same year, the African News Bulletin was launched, and in 1961 the Middle East Department was launched.

As of 1974, the Maghreb Arab News Agency became affiliated with the Moroccan government after changing its basic law. In 1975, the newsletter was launched in English, and in 1976 the agency opened its international office in Paris. Later, between 1978 and 1980, the agency opened other international offices in Madrid, London, and Dakar. In 1981 the newsletter was launched in Spanish.

In 1997, the agency’s portal was launched on the Internet. In 2005, regional offices of the agency were opened in Ouarzazate, Errachidia, and Tetouan. In 2013, the Maghreb Arab News Agency and the Royal Institute for Amazigh Culture signed in Rabat a memorandum of understanding for the launch of two news portals in the Amazigh language, the first for the public and the second for media professionals who use this language.

The agency has international offices in Abidjan, Algeria, Bonn, Beirut, Cairo, Dakar, Geneva, Jeddah, Lisbon, Madrid, Mexico, Montreal, Moscow, New Delhi, Nouakchott, Paris, Rome, Tunis, and Washington.
