Amman, July 7 (Petra) — An official delegation from the Beijing
Municipal People’s Government visited the Greater Amman Municipality
(GAM) on Tuesday to review its experience in digital transformation,
smart city development and data management, as both sides explored
opportunities to expand cooperation.

The three-day visit is led by Shen Binhua, deputy secretary-general
of the Beijing Municipal People’s Government and director of its
Government Services and Data Administration.

The Chinese team met with Chairman of the GAM Committee Yousef
Shawarbeh, alongside deputy city managers, executive directors and
senior municipal officials.

On its goals, the visit aims to exchange expertise and discuss
cooperation in areas including citizen contact centers and complaint
response systems, government services, smart city development,
digital transformation, data management and innovation in public
service delivery.

Talking at the meeting, Shawarbeh welcomed the delegation and
highlighted the longstanding Jordanian-Chinese relationship, noting
that GAM and the Beijing municipality have been linked by a
cooperation agreement since 1990.

He called for expanding cooperation, particularly in digital
transformation, technology deployment and smart city development, to
support sustainable development, improve municipal services and
enhance residents’ quality of life.

Shawarbeh also reaffirmed GAM’s commitment to exchanging technical
expertise and best practices with Beijing, expressing hope to benefit
further from China’s advanced experience in urban management to
advance the interests of both cities.

For his part, Shen commended GAM’s efforts to strengthen
international partnerships with sister cities and praised Amman’s
progress in municipal, urban and cultural development, as well as its
infrastructure projects and plans to improve public services.

He also expressed Beijing’s “readiness” to deepen cooperation with
GAM in areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the delegation presented Beijing’s experience in
digital transformation and smart city development, outlining
municipal policies and initiatives that use data and artificial
intelligence technologies to enhance government services, improve
urban management efficiency and support economic and social
development.

Separately, the delegation visited GAM’s Tla’ Al-Ali Emergency
Operations Building and met with City Manager Nabeel Jareeri and
senior municipal officials.

The delegation were briefed on GAM’s unified contact center, digital
transformation projects, smart city initiative and intelligent
traffic management system before touring the Traffic Control Center
and the Unified Contact Center in the Abdali municipal complex.
