London, August 11 (QNA) – British sprinter Amy Hunt won 100-meter gold on the first day of the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
Hunt, the silver medalist in the 200-meter race at the World Championships, outpaced her compatriot Dina Asher-Smith, the defending champion, who finished fifth in the 100-meter race.
Hunt crossed the finish line in 11 seconds, just 0.02 seconds ahead of Poland’s Ewa Swoboda, while Belgium’s Delphine Nkansa took the bronze.
In the men’s events, Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the 5,000-meter race, his first competition since last year’s World Championships in Tokyo. (QNA)
