Tafila, August 17 (Petra) – Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Yousef
Issawi on Monday inaugurated “Jordan Oasis” at Tafila Technical
University, in a ceremony attended by Tafila Governor Sultan Madi and
officials, dignitaries, university staff and students.
Issawi toured the oasis and was familiarised by the university
president about its components and significance. Covering
approximately 65 by 55 meters, the project is designed as an artistic
and cultural landmark reflecting Tafila’s history, heritage and
cultural identity.
At its centre is a three-dimensional sculpture featuring
representations of archaeological and heritage sites in the
governorate, including Tafila’s traditional architecture, Tafila
Castle, the shrine of Al-Harith ibn Umair Al-Azdi, Jurf Al-Darawish
and historical sites associated with Al-Dharih and Al-Tanour.
The project incorporates national symbols and elements reflecting
Jordan’s history and identity.
University President Shalabi said the oasis, inaugurated as Jordan
marks the 80th anniversary of independence, combines science,
culture, art and national identity.
He described it as a tribute to Tafila’s heritage and a message to
future generations. He said that the project was the result of joint
efforts by the university, national companies and public and private
institutions.
Director General of the Media Commission Bashir Momani called for
showcasing the governorates’ cultural, tourism, archaeological and
economic potential, noting Tafila’s rich heritage and its
contribution to Jordan’s national development.
The ceremony featured a falconry display by the Royal Bedouin Forces
and musical performances by the Jordanian Armed Forces Band. The
university honoured institutions and companies that supported the
project.
The supporting entities include the Arab Potash Company, Jordan
Phosphate Mines Company, the Greater Amman Municipality, Cairo Amman
Bank and businessman Ziad Manaseer.
