Beijing, July 18 (QNA) – Shanghai Xingshu Tiansuan Space Technology Co. announced Saturday the launch of the first batch of satellites under its space-computing project, which aims to deploy 1,000 satellites in orbit.
According to the company, the move marks a practical step toward the commercial operation of China’s first space-based computing network, strengthening the country’s position in the race for AI and advanced technologies.
Space-based computing technology relies on processing data, performing AI tasks, and analyzing remote-sensing data directly in orbit around Earth, rather than sending massive amounts of raw data back to ground stations.
The innovative approach significantly reduces latency and eases pressure on bandwidth and terrestrial communication networks.
The launch coincided with the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, demonstrating the intense global competition in the field as nations pursue similar space-based computing projects to accelerate AI development. (QNA)
