Minister of Culture, Information, Antiquities and Tourism Khalid Al-Eisir has affirmed his ministry’s commitment to rehabilitating the National Library and restoring it to its former status after it was subjected to destruction by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. During an inspection visit to the library’s premises in Al-Mogran on Wednesday, accompanied by the ministry’s undersecretaries Dr. Graham Abdel Gadir and Somaya Al-Hadi, along with a number of ministry officials, the minister commended the historic role of the National Library, which houses more than 150,000 books in addition to research papers, studies, and newspaper archives. In a statement to SUNA, Al-Eisir explained that the visit aimed to review the efforts exerted by those overseeing the library, who are making significant efforts to restore it to its former position. He said the library represents a major cultural and academic heritage institution and plays an important role in spreading awareness in Sudan, pointing to the role of libraries in addressing inherited historical problems. He added that the National Library represents the spearhead of such efforts, particularly in the post-war period, through laying the foundations for peaceful coexistence and promoting societal and educational awareness in Sudan. The minister also praised the library’s administration, represented by Amal Othman Mohamed, as well as the ministry’s undersecretaries and the Ministry of Finance for their continued support to the library.BH/BH
