PORT SUDAN, June 9, 2026 (SUNA) — Director General of the Customs Forces Lieutenant General (Police) Salah Ahmed Ibrahim reaffirmed the Customs leadership’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency of customs operations at border crossings and improving the work environment in a manner that facilitates trade movement and strengthens public revenue collection. The remarks came during an inspection visit conducted Tuesday to the Ouseif Customs Directorate in Halayib locality. The Director General stated that the visit falls within the framework of field assessments aimed at reviewing the volume of commercial activity and identifying challenges facing customs operations, underscoring the importance of addressing impediments hindering the smooth flow of trade. During the visit, he received a detailed briefing on customs clearance procedures and directed personnel to intensify efforts and strictly adhere to legal regulations, while commending the role played by the Customs Forces in safeguarding the national economy and maximizing state revenues. In a separate meeting with a delegation of native administration leaders and representatives of the Clearance Agents Union in Ouseif, the Director General reaffirmed his keenness to strengthen cooperation and coordination with all stakeholders involved in the commercial process in order to streamline procedures and ensure the smooth movement of exports and imports. The meeting also reviewed mechanisms for implementing the Transitional Council of Ministers’ decision imposing restrictions on the importation of certain luxury and non-essential goods. Clearance agents expressed understanding of the decree and its objectives. Discussions further addressed issues related to border trade, the challenges facing the sector, and appropriate measures to overcome them in a manner that serves the economic and developmental interests of the region.BH/BH
