Amman, June 19 (Petra) – Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA), Rafiq Kharfan, said the right of return for Palestinian refugees is inalienable and historically adequate.

Kharfan urged the international community to pay attention to this right, 77 years after displacement of over 9 million Palestinian refugees inside and outside Palestine.

In a statement on Thursday, on the occasion of World Refugee Day (WRD), he said disregarding this right of Palestinian refugees is a disgrace to the international community, which has abandoned implementation of UN resolutions issued in this regard.

Kharfan noted 2025 WRD comes amid regional instability, adding that Palestine continues to experience another chapter of its catastrophes, which documents Israel’s increasing violations.

In this context, he referred to the Israeli occupation’s settler projects and its attacks on refugee camps in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, accompanied by incursions, massacres, arrests, and destruction.

This chapter, he stated, seeks to eliminate the refugee camp’s symbolism, which represents loyalty to the Palestinian cause.

Meanwhile, he said Gaza Strip is suffering a harsh chapter amid horrific atrocities due the Israeli brutal war on the Gaza Strip for nearly twenty months.

Kharfan affirmed Jordan’s “firm, historic” stance on the Palestinian cause and its “unequivocal” rejection of these Israeli ambitions and endeavors.

Additionally, he underlined Jordan’s rejection of Palestinians’ displacement, as well as any scenarios that would circumvent the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, or disregard the right of Palestinian refugees to return, as a fundamental, inalienable issue.

Jordan, under the Hashemite leadership, remains “firm” in its position on the Palestinian issue in all its aspects, he pointed out.

Kharfan called for exerting all efforts at the local, Arab, and international levels to provide “full” support to the 13 Palestinian refugee camps in the Kingdom, as an integral part of its ongoing support for the Palestinian cause.

Jordan, under the King’s leadership, is focusing on drumming up all forms of support to enable UNRWA to provide its services to Palestinian refugees without any obstacles, he said.

This effort, he stated, comes amid the ongoing Israeli attacks on UNRWA to tarnish its reputation by labeling it as a terrorist and incitement organization and drying up its funding, aimed to end its operations as a testament the refugee issue.
