Amman, May 24 (Petra) – Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) officers on Saturday foiled an attempt to smuggle in 200,000 narcotic pills in a cargo vehicle at the Jaber border crossing with Syria, and arrested three suspects, the Public Security Directorate said.

Acting on a tip-off about an Arab national trying to smuggle large quantities of narcotic pills in a truck, in coordination with agents inside Jordan, AND workers were able to identify the vehicle and two persons, who were supposed to receive the drugs in Jordan, the Public Security media spokesperson said.

Upon arriving at the post, the vehicle was seized and searched and 200,000 narcotic pills were found stashed in a tire. Simultaneously, the location of the two individuals, who were waiting to receive the drugs, was raided leading to their arrest, he said.

In a separate raid, AND personnel arrested a suspected drug dealer of an Arab nationality and seized 18,000 narcotic pills and five firearms and ammunition during a search of a farm in the Central Badia region, the spokesman said.
