Amman, Jan. 22 (Petra) — The Eastern Military Region on Thursday foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics into Jordan using balloons fitted with advanced electronic guidance systems, underscoring continued efforts to counter cross-border smuggling operations.
According to a military statement, Border Guard units detected the smuggling attempt at dawn along the region’s eastern front within its area of responsibility. The balloons were tracked, intercepted, and brought down inside Jordanian territory, along with their illicit cargo.
The operation was conducted in close coordination with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department. All seized materials were referred to the relevant authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures.
