Amman, July 1 (Petra) – The Eastern Military Zone on Tuesday thwarted an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle “large” quantities of narcotics from Syrian territory into Jordan.

In a statement, a responsible military source in the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)-Arab Army said border guard forces in the Eastern Military Zone, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), successfully foiled an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle “significant” quantities of narcotics.

The source noted the traffickers’ movements attempting to cross the Kingdom’s border illegally were monitored, adding that rapid reaction patrols were deployed and the rules of engagement were implemented, forcing their retreat deep inside Syria.

Through intensified search and inspection operations, the source stated “large” quantities of narcotics were seized and transferred to the relevant authorities.

The source affirmed the JAF is continuing efforts to harness all their capabilities and potential to stop drug trafficking operations to preserve the Kingdom’s security and stability.
