Electricity
Generation in Oman Increases by 5.7%

Muscat,
4 Aug 2026 (ONA) — The total electricity generation in the Sultanate of Oman
increased by 5.7% during the period from January to June 2026, reaching 26,075.3
GWh, compared with 24,676.6 GWh during the corresponding period in 2025,
according to the latest preliminary data released by the National Centre for
Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The
statistics showed that Muscat Governorate recorded the highest growth in total
electricity generation, increasing by 170.2%, followed by A’Dakhiliyah
Governorate at 39.5%, Dhofar Governorate at 8.5%, Al Wusta Governorate at 7.9%,
and the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and A’Dhahirah,
each recording a growth of 6.2%.

Meanwhile,
the total electricity generation declined by 12.1% in the governorates of North
A’Sharqiyah and South A’Sharqiyah, while Musandam Governorate recorded a
decline of 1.7%.

As
for the net electricity generation, which includes purchases by the Oman Power
and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company according
to the respective regions, the data showed an increase of 5.9% during the
period from January to June 2026, reaching 25,343.8 GWh, compared with 23,930.8
GWh during the same period in 2025.

Muscat
Governorate also recorded the highest growth in net electricity generation at 169.8%,
followed by A’Dakhiliyah Governorate at 39.7%, Dhofar Governorate at 9.7%, Al
Wusta Governorate at 8.7%, and the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al
Batinah, and A’Dhahirah, each registering an increase of 6.4%.

The
net electricity generation declined by 12.3% in the governorates of North A’Sharqiyah
and South A’Sharqiyah, while Musandam Governorate recorded a decline of 1.7%.

On
the water sector, total water production declined by 3.0% during the period
from January to June 2026, reaching 244,489.8 thousand cubic meters, compared
with 252,020.4 thousand cubic meters during the corresponding period in 2025.

At
the governorate level, water production in Muscat Governorate decreased by 6.1%,
falling from 100,707.6 thousand cubic meters during January–June 2025 to 94,593.5
thousand cubic meters during the same period in 2026.

Water
production in the remaining governorates also declined by 2.3% to 111,180.5
thousand cubic meters, compared with 113,795.7 thousand cubic meters during the
corresponding period of the previous year

In
contrast, water production in Dhofar Governorate increased by 3.2%, reaching 38,715.8
thousand cubic meters during the period from January to June 2026, compared
with 37,517.1 thousand cubic meters during the same period in 2025.
