Minister of Energy and Petroleum Engineer Al-Mua’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed announced the return of Gas Unit (G03) at the Garri (1–2) Power Station to the national electricity grid, alongside the completion of major maintenance works on Unit No. (03) at Om Dabakir Power Station and its return to operation with high efficiency. The minister said the steps represent an important boost toward stabilizing electricity supply and reflect the ability of national cadres to overcome challenges and rehabilitate damaged generation facilities. He praised the significant efforts exerted by engineers, technicians, administrators, and workers at both stations in achieving what he described as a national accomplishment. For his part, Director of the Sudanese Thermal Generation Company Dr. Modawi Abdel-Karim explained that the return of the gas unit at Garri Power Station came after more than three years of shutdown due to damage sustained by the facility. He noted that its return to operation on the Day of Arafah represents an important addition to the national grid and contributes to stabilizing electricity supply during the coming period. He added that the major overhaul of Unit No. (03) at Om Dabakir Power Station was successfully completed, increasing its operational capacity to 122 megawatts compared to a previous maximum load of 80 megawatts, which will directly contribute to improving electricity supply and operational efficiency. Dr. Modawi further stated that maintenance works at Om Dabakir were carried out by India’s IMR Company in cooperation with national technical cadres, affirming that the achievement reflects the spirit of teamwork and determination to rebuild the electricity sector and support development and public services. He also expressed appreciation for the role played by the Ministries of Energy and Finance in providing fuel and financing maintenance and rehabilitation works to ensure the stability and sustainability of thermal generation operations. Minister of Energy and Petroleum Al-Mua’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed renewed his commitment to continuing support for maintenance, rehabilitation, and expansion projects in the electricity sector in order to strengthen the stability of the national grid and improve services provided to citizens across Sudan’s states.BH/BH
