Amman, Aug. 19 (Petra) — The Ministry of Environment and Far East
Projects and Development Co. signed a memorandum of understanding on
Wednesday to strengthen cooperation in waste management, source
separation, and recycling and to implement the “Green Earth Recycling
Bank” initiative.

The agreement aims to help curb indiscriminate waste dumping and
support Jordan’s transition toward a circular economy.

The memorandum was signed by Environment Minister Ayman Suleiman and
the company’s director general, Mohammad Al Khatib.

Suleiman said the memorandum is part of the executive program of the
National Cleanliness and Anti-Littering Strategy, which focuses on
developing an integrated waste management system and strengthening
partnerships with the private sector and civil society organizations.

He stressed the importance of shifting from treating waste as refuse
to viewing it as a source of recoverable, reusable, and recyclable
resources.

Suleiman said the Green Earth Recycling Bank initiative represents a
partnership model that could help increase waste separation and
recycling rates and reduce the volume of solid waste sent to
landfills.

The ministry, he added, is working to support initiatives and
projects that promote the circular economy; create new investment and
green employment opportunities, particularly for young people and
women; raise environmental awareness among community members; and
encourage source separation.

Al Khatib said the memorandum reflects the company’s commitment to
supporting national efforts in waste management and recycling.

He said the Green Earth Recycling Bank initiative aims to provide
practical, viable solutions for separating materials at the source,
recovering resources, and putting them back into use.

As a company specializing in waste management, source separation, and
recycling, Far East Projects and Development seeks through its
partnership with the Ministry of Environment to help develop
solutions that reduce reliance on landfills, improve the recovery of
recyclable materials, and support the application of the circular
economy concept in Jordan, Al Khatib said.

Under the memorandum, the two sides will work to support the
objectives of the executive program of the National Cleanliness and
Anti-Littering Strategy, encourage and facilitate the activities of
the Green Earth Recycling Bank initiative, and enhance waste
separation at source and recycling.

They will also develop solutions and proposals to reduce reliance on
landfills and cut the volume of solid waste sent to them.

The areas of cooperation also include resource recovery and reuse,
promoting the circular economy, creating green jobs, particularly for
young people and women, and supporting Jordan’s national commitments
under its green growth and circular economy strategies.
