Brussels, May 20 (Petra) — The European Council announced the appointment of French diplomat Christophe Bigot as its new Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process.
In a press release issued Tuesday, the Council stated that Bigot’s mission is to promote the achievement of a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region based on the two-state solution and in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The EU Special Representative will support the efforts of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Ursula von der Leyen and oversee all EU regional activities related to the Middle East peace process.
