Amman, Jan 27 (Petra) – European Union foreign ministers agreed on Monday to a “roadmap” for easing sanctions on Syria.
“EU foreign ministers have agreed on a roadmap for easing European sanctions on Syria,” EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said in a post on her X account.
She added, “We aim to act swiftly, but sanctions could be reinstated if wrong decisions are made.”
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed that the easing of sanctions would encompass the “energy, transportation, and financial sectors.” However, some member states expressed reservations about lifting the sanctions and demanded concrete assurances from Syria’s new administration regarding the political transition process.
