Capitals, March 16 (QNA) – Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom have urged Israel to avoid launching a large-scale ground offensive in Lebanon, warning it could lead to severe humanitarian consequences.
In a joint statement issued on Monday, the five countries said such an operation would risk devastating humanitarian impacts and could trigger a prolonged conflict.
“A large-scale Israeli ground offensive in Lebanon would have devastating humanitarian consequences and could lead to a long-term conflict,” the statement said, adding that the move should be avoided.
The countries also expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Lebanon, noting that conditions were already alarming, particularly with ongoing mass displacement.
Earlier on Monday, Lebanon’s Disaster Risk Management Unit at the Prime Minister’s office said the death toll from Israeli strikes in the country since March 2 had risen to 886, with 2,141 people injured. (QNA)
