Madaba, January 22 (Petra) — The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) signed agreements on Wednesday to provide JD230,000 in grants to 106 beneficiaries in Madaba and Dhiban.
The grants aim to establish protected agriculture initiatives, food processing ventures, and production kitchens, under the guidance and oversight of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Assistant Secretary-General for Projects at the Ministry of Agriculture, Khaled Haisa, stated during the signing ceremony attended by FAO’s government liaison officer, Talal Fayez that these initiatives align with the ministry’s strategic goals and the Economic Modernization Vision. The projects are designed to bolster rural household incomes, improve living standards, and strengthen food security through collaboration with partners, including FAO.
Haisa emphasized that these grants are part of a series of initiatives implemented over the years across various governorates to advance food security and promote rural development.
Fayez highlighted that the beneficiaries were selected from 750 applicants based on predefined criteria. He added that a water harvesting project is also planned for Madaba as part of FAO’s ongoing efforts in the region.
Madaba Agriculture Director, Bassam Abul Ghanem, noted that the directorate is tasked with supervising project implementation while offering training and logistical support to beneficiaries. These efforts aim to ensure the projects’ sustainability, fostering rural family development and enhancing food security across the governorate.
