Finance Minister Inspects Nile Street Ministry Buildings, Directs Acceleration of Rehabilitation Works

Minister of Finance Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim on Sunday inspected the Ministry’s main buildings at its headquarters on Nile Street in Khartoum, accompanied by Undersecretary Dr. Mohamed Ali Juma and a number of general directors and representatives of relevant directorates, to assess progress in rehabilitation and maintenance works and the removal of war-related damage. The Minister was briefed on a detailed update regarding the stages of the rehabilitation plan, which began with securing the premises and clearing war debris, followed by cleaning operations and the removal of overgrown vegetation, in preparation for the comprehensive rehabilitation phase. Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim emphasized the historical importance of the building, noting that it is an architectural heritage site of significant value. He pledged to seek the assistance of technical experts from UNESCO in the rehabilitation and maintenance works to preserve its heritage character. He directed that the current phase be expedited and instructed the rehabilitation of the northern building, the western wing, and the southern wing in preparation for the Ministry’s return to its headquarters. For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry affirmed the commitment of the relevant directorates to implementing the Minister’s directives, outlining the ongoing practical steps being taken to rehabilitate the building and prepare it for the resumption of operations.BH/BH
