Minister of Finance Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim met on Monday at his office in Khartoum with Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed Al-Ni, Secretary-General of the Arab Economic Unity Council, where they discussed economic relations between the two sides and ways to develop cooperation across various fields. The minister received a detailed briefing on the council, its upcoming work plan, and key priorities, including contributing to Sudan’s reconstruction efforts and supporting economic recovery initiatives.  Dr. Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim stressed the importance of activating the mechanisms of the Arab Economic Unity Council, expanding its membership base, and encouraging more countries to join, so that it can become an effective platform for joint economic action serving member states. He praised the council’s efforts and supportive positions toward Sudan, affirming the government’s readiness to fully cooperate with the council in implementing plans aimed at achieving economic development and rebuilding what was destroyed during the war. He also underscored the importance of coordination between the two sides to achieve shared objectives. For his part, Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed Al-Ni said his visit to Sudan comes within the framework of coordination and cooperation between the General Secretariat of the Arab Economic Unity Council and the Sudanese government.He provided the Minister of Finance with a detailed overview of the council’s five-year executive plan for 2027–2031, explaining that its priorities include contributing to Sudan’s reconstruction through the council’s affiliated institutions, specialised Arab federations, and joint Arab companies operating in various fields, in coordination with Arab financing and guarantee institutions and the private sector. The Secretary-General revealed that the council will organise a Sudan Reconstruction Conference in the near future, describing it as a roundtable that will bring together stakeholders involved in investment and reconstruction, including investors, private sector representatives, and Arab companies.He affirmed the council’s readiness to cooperate and coordinate with the Sudanese government to support the recovery of productive and economic sectors, contributing to reconstruction efforts and Sudan’s return to its natural position and leading role in its regional and international environment. Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed Al-Ni also noted that the council is preparing to organise a Smart Transport Forum in Sudan, which will discuss key issues related to smart transport in the country and ways to support the Sudanese government in implementing this project. The meeting was attended by Dr. Al-Sayyid Abdel Fattah, Adviser to the General Secretariat of the Arab Economic Unity Council; Eng. Hisham Awad, Chairman of the Arab Marketing Agency; Ikhlas Mohamed Ali, Director General of the External Financing Directorate; and several representatives from the ministry’s directorates.BH/BH
