Jakarta, August 02 (QNA) – At least five people were killed and 41 others remain missing after a fire broke out aboard a ferry off Indonesia’s Madura Island, the country’s search and rescue agency said on Sunday.
In a statement, the agency said the ferry was carrying 271 passengers and crew members when the fire erupted while it was sailing from Surabaya, in East Java, to Makassar, in South Sulawesi.
A total of 225 people were rescued, while search and rescue operations remain underway.
The agency did not disclose the cause of the fire, saying only that an investigation is ongoing. (QNA)
