Amman, March 1 (Petra) — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi held talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the escalating security situation in the region, amid heightened tensions and recent Iranian attacks.
According to a statement, the discussions took place during a phone call received by Safadi on Saturday evening, during which the two sides reviewed what was described as the dangerous escalation unfolding across the region.
Rubio affirmed the United States’ solidarity with Jordan in confronting Iranian attacks targeting its territory, reiterating Washington’s support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard the safety of its citizens and preserve its security and sovereignty.
Safadi condemned the Iranian attacks as unjustified, stressing that they targeted not only Jordan but also Arab states. He underscored that the Kingdom will take all necessary and available steps to protect its citizens, maintain national security and stability, and defend its sovereignty.
Safadi also emphasized the need to intensify international and regional efforts aimed at reinforcing security and stability, calling for diplomacy to serve as the primary pathway to resolving crises and containing further escalation in the region.
