Jeddah, Jan. 11, 2026 (SUNA) – Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohy-Eddin Salim, reaffirmed Sudan’s firm and unwavering support for the unity of the territory of Somalia and its people, underscoring Sudan’s categorical rejection of any attempts that would undermine Somalia’s sovereignty or fragment its land.In a statement to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the minister said Sudan took part in the extraordinary conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah, which was devoted to discussing developments related to the announcement by the Israeli entity recognizing the so-called “Republic of Somaliland.”He noted that the conference saw broad and active participation by member states, explaining that Sudan delivered a statement expressing its rejection of this move, on the grounds that the group that took such action does not represent the Somali people and that the step constitutes a violation of all relevant regional and international charters. The minister stressed that this move is rejected at the African, Arab, Islamic, and international levels, adding that the OIC demonstrated a high degree of solidarity and strength in unifying positions and taking decisions. He expressed confidence that the attempt would not move forward and would face regional and international isolation.Ambassador Salim added that the conference also renewed its steadfast support for the Palestinian people and the Gaza cause, affirming that the Palestinian issue will remain the central cause, and that dealing with the region’s issues must be approached from a comprehensive, indivisible perspective. He further expressed regret that some countries in the region are participating in what he described as a criminal scheme that even affects Sudan through the support provided to the terrorist Dagalo militia, noting that the interlinkage of the region’s issues—what is taking place in the Red Sea and in southern Yemen—reflects interconnected crises involving forces with known ambitions and objectives. The minister announced Sudan’s support for the decisive steps taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to ensure its security and that of Yemen, affirming the Kingdom’s leading role within the coalition.BH/BH
