Amman, Oct. 21 (Petra) –Alternative locations were secured for the
owners of street stalls, affected by the new Al-Mahatta Passenger
Terminal Project in the capital, Greater Amman Municipality (GAM)
has announced on Wednesday.
Executed at a total cost of JD33 million, the passenger project is
implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Transport.
This enterprise is a “major strategic” initiative within GAM’s plan
to enhance the public transport system, provide more efficient and
streamlined transport services, and improve the city’s aesthetic
appeal.
In a press statement, the GAM cited its current plans to relocate 86
kiosks, out of a total of 190, to new sites situated in “very close
proximity, less than 500 meters from their original locations.”
These new venues are located within the area designated for
alternative public transport routes and the temporary Bus Rapid
Transit (BRT) station.
Meanwhile, 104 stalls situated outside the project’s boundaries will
remain in their original locations. Construction of the new kiosks
has currently reached a 55 percent completion rate.
The GAM added that it has developed “standardized, comprehensive”
designs for various stall sizes (single, double, and quadruple units)
to accommodate diverse commercial uses, in accordance with the
highest international standards and specifications.
The GAM confirmed that the alternative stalls are stationed near the
relocated transit routes, which were shifted due to the new Bus Rapid
Transit (BRT) station project, which seeks to ensure “smooth
passenger and user movement around the kiosks and to support
commercial activity at the site.”
