Ramallah, August 9 (Petra) – Palestinian Commission of Detainees and
Ex-Detainees Affairs reported on Sunday the death of 36-year-old Gaza
resident Ihab Diab, who had been detained in Israeli prison since
Dec. 12, 2023.
In its statement, the commission said Israeli prison authorities
indicated he likely died on Sept. 18, 2024.
While the occupation’s authorities attributed his death to an
underlying medical condition, Diab’s family rejected the claim,
stating he was in good health prior to his detention.
Diab is the 328th Palestinian prisoner to die in Israeli custody
since 1967, according to the commission. Of those deaths, 91 have
occurred since Oct. 7, 2023, including 53 detainees from Gaza.
The commission renewed its call for international intervention to
investigate prisoner treatment, demand transparency for Gaza
detainees, and address allegations of enforced disappearances and
abuse.
