German Head of the Department for Culture and Society to QNA: Al Diwan Fair Introduced Germans to Richness of Arabic Culture

Berlin, October 18 (QNA) – HE Head of the Department for Culture and Society at the German Federal Foreign Office Ambassador Christina Beinhoff emphasized that Al Diwan Arabic Book Fair in Berlin has succeeded, within a short period, in introducing the German public to the richness and diversity of Arab literature, and in building bridges of connection between literature enthusiasts in Germany and the Arab world.

On the sidelines of the 4th Al Diwan Arabic Book Fair, which concluded Sunday in Berlin, Germany, Beinhoff told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that reading transmits knowledge and connects peoples, while also helping Germany view the world from different perspectives, thereby contributing to the strengthening of bonds of friendship.

She emphasized that while international relations are grounded in formal agreements, their long-term stability and consolidation require a mutual understanding, one that cultural cooperation helps to build. She noted that constructive relations create space for candid dialogue and the acceptance of differing viewpoints, provided that channels of communication remain open.

She added that engaging with the works of writers and authors from the Arab world allows German readers to encounter diverse perspectives and experiences, and to discover the history of Qatar and the richness of its cultural journey through the voices of its writers and thinkers.

The Head of the Department for Culture and Society at the German Federal Foreign Office emphasized that literature opens avenues for understanding that formal diplomacy alone might not be able to reach, noting that books can serve as some of the best ambassadors for bringing peoples closer together.

She commended the State of Qatar’s role in fostering cultural dialogue, noting that the establishment of the Arab Cultural House in Germany has provided a permanent space for cross-cultural communication, the exchange of ideas, and the deepening of mutual understanding.

She indicated that Germany needs friends and partners, emphasizing the importance of reading and cultural exchange in strengthening relations between peoples and fostering mutual understanding, especially in light of current international challenges and crises.

In her remarks during the fair, Beinhoff underscored the importance of these cultural and diplomatic bridges, which are becoming increasingly significant given the complex, interconnected nature of international challenges, the rapid pace of geopolitical shifts, and the severe repercussions of ongoing crises faced by the countries and peoples of the region.

She also noted that Germany remains a partner that stands in solidarity with those affected by these crises.

Beinhoff expressed her appreciation for the organizers and the team behind Al Diwan Arabic Book Fair, commending their efforts in fostering a cultural platform that contributes to enhancing dialogue and connection between cultures.

HE Ambassador Christina Beinhoff toured the fair’s pavilions, where she examined a number of the books and publications on display and engaged in conversations with representatives of the participating publishing houses and visitors, an opportunity for direct interaction with those taking part in this cultural event.

Al Diwan Arabic Book Fair, organized by the Arab Cultural House “Al Diwan,” concluded its fourth edition in Berlin on Sunday. The three-day event featured a series of seminars, intellectual and literary discussions, and cultural activities, with the participation of over 110 publishing houses from the Arab world and Germany. It brought together authors, intellectuals, publishers, and researchers to explore topics related to literature, translation, publishing, and cross-cultural dialogue. (QNA)
