Khartoum, July 18, 2026 (SUNA) – Chairman of the General Assembly of the General Nuba Union, Dr. Ali Al-Shaib Abu Diqin, reaffirmed the Union’s full support for the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), pledging continued backing and mobilization until the rebellion of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia is defeated. He also called for an international investigation into violations committed by the RSF during the war, stressing the need to reject calls for division and hate speech, which he said are promoted by the militia with support from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He made the remarks during the Ministry of Culture, Information, Antiquities and Tourism’s 58th regular media forum, organized by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) at the Omdurman Cultural Center, which hosted the General Nuba Union to discuss the Union President’s visit to Sudan and efforts to unify initiatives for peace and stability. Abu Diqin said the Union is working to unite the various political and intellectual components of the Nuba Mountains in support of the region and Sudan as a whole, describing the Union as an umbrella organization that brings together diverse groups on the basis of shared national values. He paid tribute to members of the Sudanese Armed Forces and supporting forces who were killed in the conflict, wished the wounded a speedy recovery, and said the current stage requires rallying behind the “Battle of Dignity” as a pivotal national cause. Abu Diqin accused the RSF militia of committing serious violations amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity, calling on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the United Nations to investigate the abuses. He said that failure to conduct credible investigations would raise questions about the standards of international justice. He also criticized what he described as the international community’s silence over RSF violations in El-Fashir, Al-Gezira State, and other parts of the country, saying they warrant an international investigation to deter the militia from committing further abuses. The Head of the General Assembly of the General Nuba Union also called for strengthening social cohesion and rejecting hate speech through national unity and trust-building among all Sudanese. He stressed that a united domestic front is the first line of defense against attempts to divide the country and urged community and tribal leaders to prevent tribal conflicts.BH/BH
