Geneva, May 19, 2026 (SUNA) – On the sidelines of the 79th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, the Federal Minister of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, discussed with Turkish Deputy Health Minister Dr. Nurullah Okumus ways to strengthen health cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was attended by Minister Plenipotentiary Mai Ibrahim, Deputy Head of Mission and official responsible for the World Health Organization (WHO) file, along with a number of members of the Sudanese delegation. The minister expressed Sudan’s appreciation for the significant support provided by Turkey during the past period, particularly medical assistance that contributed to stabilizing health services despite wartime conditions. He also praised the ongoing coordination with the Turkish Embassy in Sudan, stressing the importance of activating the memorandum of understanding between the two sides in the fields of pharmaceuticals, treatment protocols for patients, and specialized medical training. The discussions also covered cooperation in pharmaceuticals, medical technologies, medical equipment, and benefiting from Turkish expertise in establishing medical cities, in addition to expanding training opportunities for Sudanese personnel in Turkey in highly specialized medical services. For his part, the Turkish deputy health minister affirmed his country’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Sudan in the areas of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and training, praising the existing coordination between the two sides and reiterating Turkey’s continued support for Sudan.BH/BH
