KHARTOUM, Aug. 11, 2026 (SUNA) – Federal Minister of Health Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim on Tuesday held a coordination meeting with UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan Denise Brown. He commended the efforts of international and UN organizations during the war to reach areas affected in Darfur and Kordofan, particularly amid the emergence of cholera cases in West Kordofan. He stressed the importance of continuing to provide health services equitably and supporting the voluntary return of citizens. The minister said there is a clear vision for developing health services, announcing the ministry’s readiness to provide all necessary facilitation to organizations and contribute to delivering services to areas that continue to face security challenges due to the presence of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. Federal Health Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Ali Babiker Sayed Ahmed said the scale of destruction was extensive, stressing the importance of supporting the ministry in stabilizing health services in liberated areas following the looting of health institutions. He also underscored the need to strengthen efforts to support the voluntary return of citizens. For her part, Denise Brown congratulated the ministry on the approval of the National Strategic Plan for Health System Recovery (2026–2030). She confirmed the signing of support allocated to Sudan in the areas of water and environmental health, in addition to the provision of medical equipment and supplies and additional pharmaceutical supplies, stressing support for the ministry’s efforts to restore health services more effectively.BH/BH
