Khartoum, 14 June 2026 (SUNA) – The Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, held a coordination meeting on Sunday at the headquarters of the National Medical Supplies Fund (NMSF) in Khartoum, during which he reviewed pharmaceutical supply chains, the provision of medical devices and equipment, as well as challenges related to financing and the sustainability of medical equipment maintenance.  The minister stressed that effective coordination directly contributes to improving the availability of medicines, commending the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning for its attention to the needs of the health sector and its strong commitment to the government-funded treatment programme and support for national specialized centres. He underscored that the National Medical Supplies Fund is the sole legally mandated authority responsible for supplying medicines and equipment to public health institutions, calling for the adoption of a unified procurement policy through the Fund, and for the convening of an expanded meeting involving the ministry’s undersecretary and directors of national centres to develop a unified vision on the matter. For his part, the Director-General of the National Medical Supplies Fund, Dr. Badr-Eddin Mohamed Ahmed Al-Juzouli, called for a review of the free treatment lists, stressing the importance of joint coordination to address current challenges. He also commended the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to the Fund and called for further cooperation in managing medical grants and donations. Meanwhile, the Fund’s Executive Director, Dr. Sheikh-Eddin Abdel-Bagi, reviewed the status of free treatment flows, ongoing plans for providing medical devices and equipment, and mechanisms for managing grants and donations to ensure equitable distribution.BH/BH
