Khartoum, March 13, 2026 (SUNA) – The health authorities discussed measures to secure pharmaceutical supplies in the country during the second meeting of the Pharmaceutical Coordination Council for 2026, held at the office of Federal Minister of Health Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim.The meeting was attended by Federal Ministry of Health Undersecretary Ali Babiker Sidahmed, Secretary-General of the National Medical Supplies Fund (NMSF) Badr-Eddin Al-Juzouli, Director of the General Directorate of Pharmacy and State-funded Treatment Najm-Eddin Al-Majzoub, and Secretary-General of the National Medicines and Poisons Board (NMPB) Mohamed Bashir.In press remarks following the meeting, Health Minister Ibrahim said the council addressed three key issues, foremost among them ensuring the availability of medicines in light of developments related to the Gulf War. Discussions focused on maintaining pharmaceutical and medical consumables supplies through the National Medical Supplies Fund and private companies, as well as expanding cooperation channels with other countries.The meeting also reviewed pharmaceutical manufacturing and domestic investment initiatives, including the proposed Tiryag Pharmaceutical Industrial City, with participants agreeing to develop a comprehensive vision to support the sector.In addition, the council examined a proposal from the World Health Organization (WHO) on pooled procurement for countries in the region. Sudan confirmed its approval to join the initiative and coordinate with the organization to strengthen national pharmaceutical security.BH/BH
