Health Situation Reports: No New Cholera Cases, Slight Rise in Dengue Fever

Khartoum, Jan. 27, 2026 (SUNA) – The National health reports for the third week of 2026 show no new cholera infections, a slight increase in dengue fever in Khartoum and River Nile states, and a decrease in Al-Gezira, White Nile, and Blue Nile states.The Surveillance and Information Unit, presenting its findings at the Federal Ministry of Health’s Emergency Operations Centre in Khartoum, confirmed ongoing cases of viral hepatitis E in Al-Gezira State, particularly in Greater Madani and Um Al-Qura, with no fatalities reported. Measles cases were recorded in the Darfur states, along with suspected cases in White Nile State.A separate response report noted the closure of several cholera isolation centres due to the absence of new cases. It also highlighted a supervisory visit to North Kordofan, ongoing epidemiological monitoring in Darfur, and continued interventions against dengue fever, cholera, and hepatitis, alongside follow-up on the health of displaced populations.Directorates of Environmental Health, Food Control, Health Promotion, Quarantine, and the National Public Health Laboratory reported on ongoing activities and challenges. A supply report flagged disparities in the availability of epidemic and fever medications across the National Medical Supplies Fund warehouses.Malaria reports indicated that several localities in most states have reached epidemic thresholds, with some entering the danger zone despite ongoing interventions. The Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector reported that 14.9 million people have accessed at least one service, while 800,000 received a complete service package. The report identified 22 high-malnutrition areas targeted for intervention in 2026.Acting Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Al-Moghira Al-Amin, said the absence of new cholera cases reflects effective control measures but called for intensified efforts against other epidemics, particularly in Khartoum State, in light of citizens returning following liberation.
