Amman, May 24 (Petra) – The Jordan-Hejaz Railway Corporation (JHR), in collaboration with the Municipality of Umm el-Jimal, organized a special family journey aboard the historic Hejaz train on Saturday to mark Jordan’s 79th Independence Day.
According to a JHR statement, the festive journey carried 250 participants from Amman to Mafraq Station, where they were then transported by buses to the archaeological site of Umm el-Jimal. The event blended joyful moments with historical reflection, celebrating both past and present.
Upon arrival in Mafraq, participants were taken on a guided tour of the ancient ruins of Umm el-Jimal, offering a cultural and recreational experience that highlighted the region’s rich heritage.
The journey provided families with a unique opportunity to enjoy the nostalgic charm of the heritage train while exploring the natural and historical beauty of Mafraq Governorate in a patriotic atmosphere.
Participants expressed their delight with the experience, stressing the importance of such events in fostering national pride and introducing younger generations to Jordan’s deep-rooted history and ongoing development.
At the celebration site, participants were welcomed with folk and traditional music performances, along with a local bazaar featuring handmade and locally produced items from families in the surrounding community.
