KHARTOUM, July 24, 2026 (SUNA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohieddin Salim has hailed Sudanese-Saudi relations, announcing that the two countries will sign an agreement next month establishing the Higher Council for Strategic Cooperation and Coordination, describing the move as a qualitative leap in relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sudan’s strategic partner. In a joint interview with the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Sudan TV, and Sudan Radio, the minister said Sudan looks forward to forging a strategic partnership with the Kingdom through the council, which he described as a key institutional framework for harmonising visions and activating areas of cooperation, thereby elevating bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic level. The foreign minister praised Saudi Arabia’s supportive stance toward Sudan and expressed his appreciation to the Kingdom’s leadership, stressing that the Higher Council for Strategic Cooperation and Coordination would generate significant gains for both countries and for the Arab nation. He added that the establishment of the council would create broad opportunities to strengthen joint cooperation and advance the shared interests of the two countries across various fields. The minister affirmed that “anything targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab states also targets Sudan,” underscoring the unity of destiny and common interests. He also commended the supportive positions of fellow Arab and friendly countries, particularly Egypt, Türkiye, Qatar, and the Sultanate of Oman, as well as a number of other states that have stood by Sudan.
